Hyrox co-founder reveals the real meaning behind the name

Many Hyrox fans assume the name stands for 'Hybrid Rockstars', but that is not correct. Christian Toetzke, one of the co-founders of the sporting event, has now explained what the name really means.

According to Toetzke, the name Hyrox is made up of two parts. 'Hy' refers to 'hybrid', a nod to the combination of running and functional fitness. 'Rox' simply stands for 'rocks', as in powerful or strong.

The revelation shows how widespread the myth surrounding the name had already become. Within the Hyrox community, the idea of 'Hybrid Rockstars' had lived on for years as a kind of official explanation.

For Dutch participants and fans, this is a fun fact update about one of the fastest-growing sports concepts in the world. Hyrox now attracts hundreds of thousands of participants per year, including in the Netherlands.
