Hyrox updates rulebook following incident in Beijing

Hyrox has updated its official rulebook following an incident that took place last weekend at the event in Beijing. The change became necessary after the situation caused considerable discussion both internally and externally.

The new rule gives a Race Director the authority to remove an athlete from a race if blood, vomit, urine or faeces poses a risk to the health or hygiene of others. This kind of specific language was previously absent from the rulebook.

Hyrox co-founder Moritz Fürste personally apologised for the way the organisation handled the situation in Beijing. That acknowledgement was notably candid for a major international sports organisation.

For Dutch participants and spectators, it is worth knowing that interventions of this kind now have a clear regulatory basis. Hyrox is signalling that it wants to take safety and hygiene at its events more seriously, even under conditions of intense physical exertion.
