Public Review Round for Team Online Semifinal Flooded with 'Needs Review' Votes

12 June 2026, 09:50 (43 days ago) · BurpeeTalk News editorial

The public review period for the CrossFit Team Online Semifinals is drawing to a close. During this phase, spectators and competitors can evaluate submitted competition videos and flag whether a video warrants closer examination by CrossFit HQ. CrossFit then uses those outcomes as a guide during the official video judging process.

An analysis of the top thirty teams reveals that a strikingly large proportion of submissions have been flagged with 'needs review.' This raises questions about the fairness and reliability of the public judging process. It remains unclear to what extent the votes are driven by genuine concerns about athletes' movement standards, or whether strategic voting is taking place in order to disadvantage competitors.

Once the public phase closes, CrossFit HQ takes over for the final review. The organization will determine which videos are actually examined more closely and whether consequences will follow for teams whose submissions have been flagged. For Dutch and Belgian teams competing in the Online Semifinals, the outcome of this process is therefore of direct importance.

The incident highlights a well-known pain point within the CrossFit competition circuit: the difficult balance between transparency through public involvement and the vulnerability of open judging systems to abuse. CrossFit HQ is expected to provide more clarity on the final results in the coming days.
