Community Cup Open: CrossFit puts local competition back in the spotlight
Registration for the 2026 Community Cup is now officially open. CrossFit is once again giving athletes the chance to compete against others of a similar level, directly from their own affiliate.
During his most recent weekend review, CrossFit Games director Dave Castro urged athletes to sign up for the competition in August. The Community Cup is based on CrossFit Open results, meaning participants are grouped according to their own performance level.
Competition for everyone
Where the Open is primarily about global rankings, the Community Cup focuses on direct and fair competition. Athletes go head-to-head against others in the same skill category, which CrossFit says should make for more exciting and accessible contests.
Castro emphasized that affiliates play an important role. Athletes whose box is not yet involved are encouraged to point their coaches and owners to the opportunity.
A familiar Games workout on the schedule
The programming adds extra appeal for dedicated CrossFitters. One of the Community Cup workouts is based on the first event from the 2026 CrossFit Games.
That test combines rowing with thrusters or push jerks and pull-ups. According to Castro, the result is a workout that is both accessible and challenging for a wide field of participants.
Focus on the community
With the Community Cup, CrossFit appears to be placing renewed emphasis on what has long been the sport's greatest strength: training together, suffering together and competing together within your own community.
For many recreational athletes who have completed the Open, the Community Cup offers an additional goal heading into the end of the season. Not for a Games ticket, but for something that many CrossFitters consider at least as important: bragging rights within their own affiliate.
Registration for the Community Cup is open throughout the month of August at games.crossfit.com.
