CrossFit thinks out loud about bringing back its education platform

17 August 2026, 09:00 (37 days ago) · BurpeeTalk News editorial

CrossFit appears to be looking to invest more heavily in knowledge sharing and coach development. During his weekly review, Dave Castro responded to a question about the former CrossFit Journal and indicated that the organization is actively discussing new ways to make educational content available to coaches and affiliates.

A question from the community

The conversation was sparked by an affiliate owner who attended the recent Owners & Coaches Conference. According to him, the event exceeded expectations and demonstrated the depth of knowledge that now exists within the organization.

He raised the question of whether the former CrossFit Journal, for years an important resource for coaches, could ever return in a modern form. He also noted that many trainers feel the need for more substantive education and continuing professional development.

From PDF to modern content

Castro confirmed that this discussion is already taking place internally. According to him, the way people consume knowledge has changed significantly since the Journal was at its peak.

Where long articles and downloadable files once took center stage, CrossFit is now looking at more modern ways to distribute information. That does not mean the content itself has become less important. Quite the opposite.

"What that really says is that we need to offer educational content more aggressively than we have so far," Castro said.

Education back as a priority

The statement fits within a broader shift inside CrossFit. At the Owners & Coaches Conference, the emphasis was firmly on coaching, training, affiliate development, and raising the quality of programming within boxes.

A greater focus on education would also align with the needs of coaches looking to deepen their knowledge beyond existing certifications. Especially as the fitness market becomes increasingly competitive, additional expertise can be a key differentiator for affiliates.

More than just the Games

In recent years, much of the CrossFit community's attention has been directed toward competitions and the CrossFit Games. Castro's comments suggest the organization also wants to reinvest deliberately in its original foundation: educating coaches and spreading knowledge about training and health.

Whether that will ultimately lead to an official return of the CrossFit Journal remains unclear. One message does seem to be getting clearer, though: education is back higher on CrossFit's agenda than it has been in recent years.

For coaches and affiliate owners who have long been asking for more substantive support, that may be one of the most promising developments outside the competition floor.
