The world of hybrid fitness competitions is growing fast. Alongside Hyrox and events such as the Hybrid Games and the Turf Games, a serious competitor is now active: Spartan DEKA.

DEKA grew out of the experience of people who spent years working at Spartan Race, one of the largest obstacle race series in the world. They saw how such events attracted tens of thousands of participants and decided to build their own format, focused on hybrid strength and endurance.

The DEKA concept combines functional movements with cardio elements, similar to the approach that has also made Hyrox successful. In doing so, it targets an audience that combines CrossFit-style training with competitive racing.

For Dutch CrossFit and Hyrox enthusiasts, it is interesting to see how the hybrid fitness market continues to fragment. More options mean more choice, but also more competition for existing formats such as Hyrox.
