Swimming Returns to the CrossFit Games 2026

20 June 2026, 13:59 (35 days ago) · BurpeeTalk News editorial

Dave Castro has confirmed on behalf of CrossFit that swimming will return as an event at the CrossFit Games in 2026. The announcement comes two years after a tragic incident during the Games in Fort Worth led to the swimming event being removed from the schedule.

The 2026 edition will be held in San Jose, and a key difference from the ill-fated Fort Worth edition is the venue for the swimming event: athletes will not compete in open water this time, but in a pool, a deliberate decision that puts safety first.

For Dutch CrossFit fans and athletes, this is a notable development. Swimming is traditionally not a strong suit for many CrossFitters, meaning this event could significantly shake up the playing field. Athletes targeting the 2026 Games would be wise to take this element seriously in their preparation.

CrossFit made the announcement via social media, also linking it to the arrival of a new partner. Further details about the swimming format and the full 2026 Games program are still to follow.
