CrossFit Total returns to the CrossFit Games

The 2026 CrossFit Games are reaching back to their roots: CrossFit Total returns as an official competition event. This classic benchmark consists of a max-effort back squat, shoulder press, and deadlift, each performed as a single rep at the heaviest possible weight.
New this year is the scoring format. Rather than combining the three lifts into one total score, each lift counts as a separate event worth 50 points, making CrossFit Total a significant factor in the overall standings.
The return of this event gives the 2026 Games a nostalgic feel. CrossFit Total featured in the very first CrossFit Games back in 2007, making its comeback a nod to the competition's origins. Athletes who excel in raw strength will have extra opportunities to make their mark this year.
For Dutch CrossFit fans, this is an intriguing development: the focus on foundational strength movements aligns well with the training culture found in many Dutch boxes. It promises to be an exciting season for both pure strength athletes and well-rounded competitors alike.
