Ella Wilkinson sets sights on World Fitness Project after strong Games debut
Ella Wilkinson looks back with pride on her first appearance at the CrossFit Games. The British athlete describes it as "one of the best weeks of her life" and wants to use that experience as a springboard into an even stronger season.
Wilkinson made an impression on her debut with several solid performances, including a third-place finish in the grueling ranch run event. Remarkably, she achieved this while dealing with a series of physical issues in the lead-up to the Games, including an abdominal muscle tear, knee complaints and a bout of illness shortly before the competition.
"My goal this year was to make the Games. I did that, so I'm proud of it," Wilkinson said in a recent interview.
New environment, new confidence
A key development in the past season was her move to Blueprint Performance, where she trains under coach Fraser Clarke. There, she trains daily alongside reigning Games champion Amy Cringle.
According to Wilkinson, that environment has helped her build more structure and discipline into her daily routine. The combination of personal coaching and strong training partners gave her the confidence that she belongs at the highest level.
Focus on recovery
After the Games, the priority was recovery. Tests revealed that Wilkinson had sustained a tear in her lower abdomen, an injury that likely occurred during a heavy snatch session in her season preparation.
Surgery does not appear to be necessary at this stage. With rest and targeted rehabilitation, the British athlete is making good progress and expects to return to full training soon.
On the road to Indianapolis
The next major stop is the World Fitness Project Tour Stop in Indianapolis. Wilkinson tempered expectations slightly given her recovery, but hopes to collect enough points to put herself in a strong position ahead of the final in Copenhagen later this year.
After an impressive rookie season, one thing seems clear: Ella Wilkinson has established herself as a name to watch on the international CrossFit circuit.
