Fabian Hermans once again among the world elite

When the participant list for the Rogue Invitational was released, attention naturally gravitated toward former CrossFit Games champions such as Jeffrey Adler, Justin Medeiros and Laura Horvath. Yet for Dutch CrossFit fans, one name stands head and shoulders above the rest: Fabian Hermans.

The Netherlands' best CrossFitter has once again qualified for one of the most prestigious competitions outside the CrossFit Games. This is no one-off achievement. Last year, Hermans also qualified through the qualifiers and finished fifteenth in a field packed with world-class athletes. That result proved he not only belongs at this level, but can genuinely be competitive here.

Dutch number one for years

Within the Dutch CrossFit scene, Hermans has been the benchmark for years. While other Dutch athletes occasionally appear on the international stage, Hermans tops the national rankings season after season and consistently measures himself against the European elite.

What makes his career even more compelling is that he has come close to qualifying for the CrossFit Games multiple years in a row. The semifinals are generally no problem. Hermans reaches that stage consistently and convincingly. But it is there, at the final qualification hurdle, that he has repeatedly fallen just short of securing the coveted Games spot.

That makes his story relatable. Not every top athlete follows a straight path to success. Sometimes the difference between a Games entry and a missed opportunity comes down to a handful of points, a few seconds or one workout too many. Hermans has experienced that reality more than once, but he keeps coming back.

Rogue as a stage

That is precisely why Rogue feels like an important platform for the Dutchman. This competition is widely regarded by athletes as the strongest international event outside the Games itself. The field consists almost entirely of current or former Games athletes and podium contenders.

Last year, Hermans proved with his fifteenth-place finish that he can compete at this level. This year, he gets another chance to measure himself against the very best in the world.

A top-ten finish would represent an enormous step forward and would further cement his status as one of Europe's strongest athletes.

Hermans is the athlete who fights his way onto that list year after year. The athlete who consistently reaches the semifinals, keeps inching closer to the CrossFit Games and refuses to be discouraged by setbacks.

He has not yet secured a Games ticket. But with another invitation to Rogue, the Dutchman once again demonstrates that he has now firmly established himself in the vicinity of the absolute world elite.

For Dutch CrossFit fans, that may be the most important signal of all: Fabian Hermans is once again standing on a stage where only forty of the world's best athletes are allowed to compete. That alone makes his presence a achievement of considerable note.
